2004 – The year of Lace

Dates: August 23rd to September 22nd. The fruit reached a significantly more even ripeness than in the last few vintages. The challenge this year was waiting for the skins and the seeds to ripen fully, while the sugars kept soaring... This time we had to resort to the controvertial practice of exchanging some must with water to prevent the alcohol levels from sky-rocketting.

The good news is that the results are extremely promising: the wine smells and tastes fragrant and pure, with no hint of over-ripeness or raisiny character. There is an overall sense of balance and harmony.

Tasting Date:   5/16/2009 – At our Spring Celebration: this is also gaining in depth, while keeping its upfront fruit appeal. Too easy for my own taste… but everybody seems to like it. "Why do you always have to frown on pleasure?" (from the Mahabharatha).

Tasting Date:   6/27/2006 – At the Pinot Days lineup. Still in its youthful flowery phase, this vintage has a super-ripe streak, which made it very popular at the show, but not as popular with my own taste. In the mouth it is well balanced and lively, with complexity and real elegance. Good length and pure finish. I for one would like to see more minerals at the finish. We'll see what time will do with this one...
