Early winter: wild mushrooms are out, leaves have fallen, fresh grass covers the vineyards… Freezy nights, cold days, one 10" rain storm, and still getting some occasional showers.

We have started clearing and preparing a 3-acre site just below the Home Vineyard (immediately to its north) for spring planting. The site is very cool for the Sierra Foothills and is ideally suited for white wine production. About half of it will be the new home for the Carte Blanche varieties: Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and Roussanne. About 1/2 acre of Riesling, 1/2 acre of Syrah - possibly for the Tickled pink, and 1/2 acre of Pinot Noir - at its coolest lowest end. This is a large project for us, requiring much of our resources over the next few months.
A Unique Vineyard Producing Pinot Noir Wine of Distinctive Character in the California Sierra Foothills.
